1/7 Scale RC JP10 Jeep build. Highly detailed!

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of building a detailed 1/7 scale RC JP10. I'll be including all materials I've used so far for anyone wanting to replicate a similar build and I'll be updating as I go along. The Jeep is advertised as a 1/10 scale, but it's actually 1/7.

RC Jeep base: 1/10 FMS Mashigan.
You will need to source a V.1 grill. FMS was hit with a cease and desist for making an unlicensed YJ, so they had to update the grill. The version 1 grill is sometimes available on their website.

PAINT:
Primer: Rustoleum automotive primer.
Base coat: Custom mixed PJ1 Sand Beige Metallic rattle can by Spectral Paints. Can be found on Amazon, Ebay or direct from Spectral Paints.
Clear coat: Rustoleum Semi-Gloss Clear.
Stripes and wheels: Rustoleum Satin Apple Red.
Interior: Rustoleum Club Green and dash is Slate Grey (can't remember the brand).
Small details: Sharpie paint pens fine tip.

Wheels: Boom Racing CSK Classic 1.9
Tires: ProLine BfGoodrich All Terrain K02 1.9
Front fog lights: Amazon 18mm 1:10 RC fog lights.
Rear fog lights: Amazon LICHIFIT 20mm rectangular fog lights.

Winch, tool boxes and other items will be 3D printed. Decals are also being figured out. Stay tuned for more information as I go. I've been pretty quick with this project and it should be completed within a few weeks, so updates will be frequent. Enjoy!

Starting this build off with the interior and painting wheels. Everything painted green is with Rustoleum Hunt Club Green. I used some thin fake leather from Hobby Lobby to create the door panel pouches and the seat stripes. The leather was originally black, so I painted it with Rustoleum Nutmeg. For the dash, I used a slate grey color and hand painted all the details with Sharpie paint pens from Wal-Mart. The gauges will be lit with LEDs and will have the instrumentation decals applied, but that's for later.

Moving on to painting the base coat and clear coat. For primer, I used a generic Rustoleum automotive primer rattle can and lightly sanded it with 600 grit before and after primer. For the base coat, I couldn't find anything off the shelf that would satisfy me, so I opted to pay the $40 for a single 12oz rattle can of custom mixed PJ1 Sand Beige Metallic by Spectral Paints. Ordered from Amazon. I was extremely nervous about spraying this stuff and really didn't know what to expect. It layed down perfect and looks AMAZING. Then I used Rustoleum semi-gloss clear on top. I decided to go ahead and paint the red section between the hood and dash separately from the stripes since that piece is removable and will make painting the stripes easier later on.

Now for stripes and decals. The decals for the doors and hood were ordered from an Ebay seller based in the UK. While they're extremely good quality, the scale isn't quite right. The door decals are too large and the hood decal is too small. These are things I can change later. For the #10 on the side, I used decals as a stencil from a jurassic decal sheet purchased from FairRC, so the #10 is permanent on the sides. The stripes were an absolute PITA to tape up correctly. It took me racking my brain for hours going back and forth between reference photos and retaping many times. The dimensions of the fender flares aren't quite accurate, so the number 10s aren't placed exactly like they were in the film. Close enough! Once I felt all was right, I taped off the rest of the truck and crossed my fingers. The end result was flawless! After that, I went ahead and used my paint pens to paint all the black trim, side steps and headlight buckets silver. The Jeep is starting to look so good!

Got the mirrors painted and rear fog lights mounted to the taillights. The rear fogs are from Amazon. 20mm rectangular RC fog lights. The lens trim was chrome, so I had to paint them black. Up next will be sorting all the LEDs for the truck.
