Never heard of such a fine before, only ones I know of is boosting your signal through a other signal or something and using Chantal nine for anything other than an emergency

They are trying to prevent "freebanding" by making everyone update. maybe it is just my area but I know there are pretty big fines. There is a little information on wikipedia about it.

Look under enforcement.

That's only meant to stop the use of modified radios transmitting on anything but the designated CB freq's. Some manufacturers have made radios with "extended transmitting" that's basically a modded radio from the factory, but those are rare and you'd know if you had one, because you'd have paid for that extra feature. Most common CB's are fine, even if they are older. And that cobra is fine.

Odds are the guy that got an $8,000 fine, had an amp. Because there's no way a cop on the street, or even most police departments in the country have the equipment to prove that "X" radio can transmit where it shouldn't. (unless it has a freq display of course and CB's generally don't.)

Its not a fine from the police, its comes from the radio provider. All i know is that radios where I am are required to update because I think they are putting up new towers which also have internet access. The person who got fired was a vetirinarian who I intern with. They used radios to communicate while out on the road for large animal calls, and they refused to stop using the old radios and they were fined. thats all i know haha. It might be a regional thing, who knows!

Are you sure it was a cb? That sounds like they had business band radios and a repeater and had not "narrow banded" per new national interoperability regulations.

Jack's right. Sorry!

More on topic, this looks like a great build. Your base jeep looks great!

In my professional opinion, you're fine using that cb.

Keep us updated, I can't wait to see more!

Update!

Post by AdamT » July 23rd, 2013, 8:14 pm

So here's a quick update. The jeep got the big dent in the back sorted out. The jeep has some rust to fix around the windshield. I just got all new weather stripping for rainy nights in the park. I also got brand new soft top hardware to make the top going on and off easier (also the old ones had missing paint). I also got plates for the back. My jeep has a tow hitch so I got a custom tow hitch mounting kit to put the state plate under the tire and the Jurassic Plate where it belongs.
Thanks,
Adam
