Walke2jd's 1992 Sahara Jeep 33 - Virginia

Post by walke2jd » June 8th, 2015, 9:10 pm

Racing to finish before the JW premiere. I'll come back and beef this post up when I have time, but couldn't resist sharing progress photos!

Started with a good condition 1992 Sahara in sand beige. Decided to work with the stock paint for now, so I used plastidip for all the red so it's easy to remove when I get it painted. This pic is after painting tonight. There are a few blemishes, but overall it came out decent for my first attempt at painting. Tomorrow, I'm installing the light bar, whip antenna, and amber rear lights. I'll post more as I get things done.

My jeep will be at the Cinema Cafe at Kempsville in Virginia Beach for the Thursday JW premiere if anyone is from the area.

Looking good! How long did it take you to plastidip the stripes?

After a few rookie mistakes, it probably took about 16 hours to tape, mask, spray, and clean up the front and back stripes. That doesn't include the JP33 hood logo (being done tonight).

Plastidip is great stuff and very forgiving to a novice. Even after just this one job, I feel like my next dip will be so much better after what I learned.

Really nice job. I used plasti dip for mine as well. The only parts I'm not completely happy with are my side numbers. I just used taped down posterboard then peeled it off quickly after my last spray. So did you use decals to get those cleaner edged lines?
Here's what I've got.

Just an FYI - 2 years in my plastidip is still looking good.. My base paint (that the PO had done) is worse than my Plastidip. The sharp edges of the numbers on both the hood and the side can start having some issues so be very careful washing them.

A few pictures from yesterday's JW premier.Everything went really well and had a lot of fun doing photos with all the JP fans. I think I am going to enjoy the jeep as is for the summer and pick the build back up in the fall.

So, I just got approached by Dave and Busters. They are setting up an event to release a new JP themed game and want my Jeep parked inside the arcade near the new machine. Should be interesting. Just trying to figure out what I should charge and such; think I will ask for gift cards in lieu of cash so I don't have to worry about the wrath of Universal or the tax man.

Anyone ever have any problems showing your jeep in a commercial setting? I am wondering what else I should be worried about...

I would ask about insurance and if it will be roped off. Expect to need to drain the gas out of it (or I would think).
