The beginning of JP13

The hard top is now done in Spice Monstaliner.

Thought about doing the whole Jeep in this stuff but it's not smooth enough for decals or decent-looking stencils.

That came out nice. what did you do to the top to strip off the black? or is that just primer?

The white is epoxy primer.

Thanks! It's a little more textured than it was but I'm happy with it.

I had to spend time fixing things that only I will know about- new shocks, fixed a door lock, etc.

If you don't mind me asking how much did it cost to have your hard top painted spice? I am in the process of possibly looking for a Jeep to start my JP transformation and if I find a hard top at the right price I would probably go with that first and then later purchase half doors and a soft top. Plus a hard top would really be more practical for me living in New England since I'm pretty sure whatever Jeep I get will have to become my daily driver!

Don't mind at all. I did it so there was no labor cost. It rolls on easily, no spraying needed.

www.monstaliner.com has a "buy online" link. A gallon is twice as much as you need to put 3 coats on a hard top. I bought a pint of white primer too.

Everything was about $160. Totally worth it.

It's still giving off solvent fumes 24 hours later so it may even lighten up a shade.

The tan Plasti-dip is done. Wheels are red. Sure hope vinyl sticks to it!

At $240 to do the whole thing it's not the end of the world if it doesn't work out. It would be nice if it lasts a couple years.

Nice work. The tan really does seem very close to the right color. Your work looks very even! You're making excellent progress. The folks at dip your car forums say vinyl sticks fine, but getting out air bubbles under a big one like the door may be difficult.

To do the numbers on the sides I cut out paper numbers and used double sided removable scotch tape to hold them on. Then stuck thumbtacks through them so the pointy side was out. Then to peel of the number quickly after the red was on I used pliers to pull from the pointed thumb tacks. this got them enough started without touching the plastidip on the car to peel it off.

Blue Scotch painter's tape is supposed to work well on dip. I'm going to let it cure for a week and do the red next weekend.

I still have to do tan on the tops of the doors but that won't take long.

Should be done by May. Didn't do anything today. It was 91 degrees and I busted my ass Friday and Saturday to get it to where it is today.
