JP18 Build Thread (Number 2), Jacksonville FL

Post by Dwight » February 18th, 2021, 5:25 pm

Just picked up a clean 1994 Sahara with 93k miles on it. The plan is to convert it to a screen accurate JP12. Some short term goals are obviously to unbolt that god awful brush guard, pick up some rims and correct tires.

I'll be saying goodbye to my Explorer build in attempt to offset the cost of this purchase. While that build was very fun and challenging, I regretted selling my first JP18 from about the second day it was gone.

I think it was about the second day of it being finished that you sold the first one.

Getting the ball rolling on JP12 fairly quickly.

Some items I've picked up:

- Stock size front/rear fender flares
- Jabsco base ring moulding
- OEM carpet set
- 2 Ray-Line (screen accurate) branded Jabsco Searchlights
- KC rear fog lights
- OEM Sahara door pouches
- RadioShack ball mount
- RadioShack spring
- RadioShack antenna hold-down
- OEM center console
- OEM visors with original sticker
- OEM green door pulls
- OEM green door pins
- Leather wrapped steering wheel
- Front bumper end caps

I'll be picking up the Jeep this weekend so I can finally get started. Some short term goals are to get it checked out mechanically, remove the ugly brush guard, put stock shackles on, clean up the interior and engine bay, and make sure it's all back to stock. I also plan on adding some sort of sound deadener/insulation under the carpet. Trying to decide on a butyl rubber vs Lizard Skin. Will also be putting the hard top, full doors, and rims/tires up for sale.

Trying to get the Jeep ready for paint as soon as possible. In order to do that I'll first need the following items:

- 4 stock rims
- Light bar
- Half Doors
- 2 more Jabscos
- 4 Jabsco rings

Received a few items in the mail this week.

- Stamped JP12 license plate (already have the correct frame for it).
- JP12 Key Chain
- JP12 Mirror Tag
- Dennis Nedry ID. Using this ID along with a full size Skeleton and JP Raincoat from 401Graphics to make a fun Dennis Nedry prop.

Also got my 102" whip antenna from CB World but didn't really care to add a photo of that since it's in a long PVC tube lol.

Went down to Daytona today and traded off my hard top, full doors, and all that ugly chrome. Got a good set of half doors, 5 good rims, rear bumperettes, front bumper (old one was ruined from the aftermarket brush guard), and some odds and ends.

Getting closer to getting it ready for paint. I'll need to get some stock front shackles and some 30's to bring it down closer to the right height. As of right now its sitting about 1" higher than stock.

With the half doors that are now on the Jeep, I'll be painting the panels that are on there and adding a set of OEM Sahara panels to them and then selling the set. So if anyone is interested, keep an eye out in the near future for that.

Got my REP6000 in the mail today, and it came with a dinosaur with some not-so-nice words to say. Went ahead and ordered decals and a screen accurate solenoid box plug. Just have to get a new cable off Ebay and it should be ready to go.

I've also ordered one of Kyle Bortoff's screen accurate reproduction Ramsey Winch plates. Those should ship out some time in April. Then I'll need to get some winch spacers to complete the Ramsey winch setup for JP12.

Dennis Nedry prop coming together. I still would like to find some semi accurate pants and shirt, and maybe a Casio watch. Got the Raincoat from 401Graphics which can be found on the Jurassic Park Motor Pool Reference section.

I've been on the fence with potentially buying the rain coat. What are your impressions of it? Does it seem that the decals will last?
