And I already got a tag made:

I'm excited to start on this, but unless I get enough money to do it myself, or to get someone else to paint it for me, I may have to just slap the decals on it and be satisfied with it. If anyone have tips on doing this paintup cheeply, please let me know.

Congrats on the new Jeep looks pretty clean, looks like the prior owner was really into camo. But that would be easy enough to fix. Good luck with the build, hope to see some more progress.

Not sure if there is any magic bullet on paint. There are several on here that were painted at home to full on professional restorations. Just need to see what meets your abilities and budget.

Man it's been a long time. How time flies right?

Anyways a lot has happened since my first post and now. I got a decent paying job which makes doing stuff actually somewhat possible.

Sadly, a few months ago, the transmission broke and I can't shift gears anymore. Because of this, I'm currently paying for a second car. While this situation has been shaky, it does make a good possibility to not only repair my Jeep but also paint it since I now have a second vehicle.

So I must ask: What are the best ways to paint it? Pricing isn't too much of a problem now since this job has been decent and I'm planning to find a better paying one. I mainly would like to make a price list for the paint and decals and start from there......

By the way, it's great to be back! :)

seems like the four cylinder transmissions dont last forever, as is life. The six cylinder transmission defies logic and will never die.

A lot of conversions are done with plasti dip spray rubber. You can rip the entire thing off in the future if you ever want to go back to green. The sun will bake the plasti dip over time though and it will start to look pretty crappy. Oh wait..i didnt understand. You dont want to spare any expense? Well shoot be more specific than "Best way to paint?"Hmm.. I think i prefer the radiant fire color from 92 for the stripes but put flat clear over it. The flat clear will make it a pinkish if you get the clear mix right. The sand beige is a one year only single stage paint but you could clear over it with the flat clear also and use a base coat clear coat formula. Clearing over the entire jeep will provide edge free lines but do you want show quality? If you want "canon" then paint lines will be cool.

So if i was to paint my jeep all over again i would do a single stage paint LJ1 and the radiant fire stripes with the flat clear. I would also have the LJ1 custom made to be darker than what the current formula makes it. I would use my current paint on my jeep to create a "custom color" but the factory color. My factory paint is still looking awesome and the new paint formula isnt right. I dont think the new color looks as pretty either. In the last 25 years paint production has changed so the formula is slightly off.

I do wish that I had thought of doing a flat clear instead of gloss. oh well.

That looks great but it doesn't match my factory LJ1. I can take a close up of my newly painted fender flares against my original fender. original is a deeper darker color. i tried putting on multiple coats and i still couldn't get it dark enough. i put four coats on one piece trying for the original color. if I was to repaint a panel on my jeep I would need to make a custom color

I have spent more time on the paint. I am told by experts that it's impossible to match a metallic mix. I am spraying at a very low pressure now. I am getting a darker color with a slight orange peel. factory paint also has a slight orange peel. I think this is the key to the original darker color
