Explorer Build in Australia
Explorer Build in Australia
Having purchased this car a few months ago as an offroader, i thought why not, seeing a JP Explorer out bush would be enough to make me laugh, and seeing as all of the details required to complete it are readily available via the motorpool, i decided to just go for it.
1st Gen's weren't sold in Australia, so there was little chance of using one as a basis, although i have seen 1 for sale here about 6 months ago, i probably should have picked it up!
So i used my 2000 Gen 2 Explorer XL Manual
How it started about 2 years ago terrible nudge bar, but a basis to work from copped a bit of offroad work, improved the nudge bar, rear bar carrier etc etc

Re: Explorer Build in Australia
Then came early mid april 2018, time to begin!
Decided i was going to paint the green/yellow as it was the cheapest option, except the bonnet that would be wrapped.
So i had the colours matched to the vinyl i was going to use.
Day 1 - Dissasemble! Day 2 - Sanding! day 3 - Painting! Day 4 - Cleanup!

Re: Explorer Build in Australia
I decided to Vinyl wrap both the roof and the bonnet, mainly due to the paint being acylic and the top getting the most of the sun, would hopefully make it last better, this car unfortunately lives outside all the time.
wrapping the roof was a terrible experience... but it looks ok in photos haha.
Day 5 - Bonnet wrapped Day 6 - Roof Wrapped Day 7 - Upper Doors & Tailgate Wrapped About here the weather turned bad, so things got a little delayed, but still chipped away at it!
Started laying on the stripes

Re: Explorer Build in Australia
More assembly and stickers!
Nudge bar back on & Bonnet Logo Little green parts at the top of the doors This was now the start of May, About now i realised i was going to have to wait a little while to get the side stickers done, i should have ordered them earlier!
So i got cracking on making up some taillight guards

There are of course still some further touches to come, but that brings it up to where it is currently.
and now i can drive it again!
