Re: Colorado JP #29
I agree, the guy would be making all profit. The material would cost nothing in comparison to the $120. I would find someone that charges less for his time, this guy must be busy.
Is that apple red on the wheel? I would not paint the lugs, it will look more professional IMO. Take into consideration that some of the paint will flake and scratch off when you put them on and take them off.

I looked real close at the screen images and the lug nuts are NOT painted. So I am not painting mine. as for the lightbar it totally depends on the tubing being used. DOM tubing can easily be $40-60 for 10' f0r 1.5" diamtere. Now if you use some other tubing .... I'm putting the lightbar on the back burner for now.... Lightbar is easy to add later.
When I finish the stripes I'll tell everyone the red I used. Until then I'm keeping it a secret.

Re: Colorado JP #29
Wow those wheels turned out nicer than my powdercoated wheels. Nice!! Can't wait to hear which red you used.
Re: Colorado JP #29
Ok, I'll let the cat outta the bag..... It's Red plastidip... from dipyourcar.com Can you believe it. I did the wheels as a test, and with how they came out, I am going to try the stripes as well. There is a bit of texture when you feel them, which is not to my liking... but it's the only way i am going to have anything done by the movie re-release..... My plan long term is still to do a full paint job, but due to finances that is a ways off at the moment.

That turned out really well. I'm really interested and seeing how the stripes look. Will you be stenciling the numbers in?

Re: Colorado JP #29
My plan is to mask them.... stripes lines shouldn't be to bad, but the numbers are going to be tough. Also with the plastidip you have to pull your masking tape lines off right after spraying, which will make it tricky...... If you wait to pull the tape with the dip, then it will pull off the part you don't want it to pull off, and/or your line will look horrible as it won't be a clean edge. I've been thinking if either 1: i can have someone pull tape as I am finishing the last coat, or 2 doing sections it will be best...
The weather here is cold for at least a week.... so I don't know when I will get to do the stripes. I want it to be at least over 50 degrees.
The hood JP29 will be a vinyl decal, but the 29 on the sides will be masked off.

if you want to mask off with the plastic dip once dried you can go back with a razer blade and cut around where the tape is

Cool. Is that shade of red the standard color or did you have to mix it?COBrian wrote:Ok, I'll let the cat outta the bag..... It's Red plastidip... from dipyourcar.com Can you believe it. Standard Red out of the spray can.
I reinstalled the wheels tonight, no issues with the dip as far as trying to come off or anything.. but it did pick up grime from my hands very easy... but according to the dip sites, it is still curing for a week or so, so I think that is just fresh dip... I used a little water on a paper towel and the grime came right off, without any issues.
