Alan Grant's Hat
Does anyone know what it is or where someone could find one close enough?

Re: Alan Grant's Hat
Its a fedora. You can find all kinds online that look close enough. In JP, people have claimed its a straw version, gotta rewatch to check, and in JP3 its felt. This signature item was added because in paleontology, and in archaeology which is my field, you find yourself in areas where you can be exposed to the elements, sun, a lot. So it was supposedly added to the authenticity of the character. Also, hope this helps

I've been searching as I'm writing this so if it doesn't make sense I'm sorry.

Sweet, the Scala Saratoga, while the weave doesn't look right, is a sweet hat, and close enough for me.
I visit RPF all the time, I just didn't even think to look there for this hat!
EDIT: Tony, I just went to the introduction page to write mine, and saw yours. I'm in Stillwater. Well, not right now, but I will be in a month or so, right now I'm in southern California on an extended business trip. Check out my intro.

My hat is here. I went Sunbody and then weathered it. With all the gear it looks great. Me and my Ellie are going to a con next weekend in our gearcpltony wrote:Saw it and posted...nice to see more Oklahomans popping up ):

Re: Alan Grant's Hat
The original Dr. Grant hat was made by Baron Hats, who is a Hollywood hat supplier. Image of the original screen-used:
For my own replica, I went with the Scala Panama, with a horse hair braid I found on Etsy:

It's not perfect, but it does the job.

Re: Alan Grant's Hat
Marscreature,
I suggest spending a few extra dollars and get this one:
http://www.villagehatshop.com/product/a ... a-hat.html
It's about $52, is very well made and looks pretty close to Grant's hat without spending $800-1000 for the original manufacturer.
You won't regret spending the extra dollars since the hats are great. I also wear mine as a regular hat and the SPF is a great side benefit. If taken care of properly, the hat will last you a very long time.
Village Hat Shop is based in San Diego, CA but they do ship pretty much anywhere for a reasonable fee. They sometimes also have sales.
