Jurassic Jeep Powerwheels

Post by jhpeyton » April 6th, 2016, 8:48 pm

Taking an older Powerwheels Jeep that a friend gave to me and making it match my jeep.

Image

Starting with this, just a new battery and it runs just fine

Image

Under the seat

Image

Had to order new retaining caps since these are kinda "one time use"

Image

Weels are off and stickers pealed off. It was once a shiney red.

Image

Taking the rear axle out, freeing the drive motors and getting ready to take the wiring out.

Image

New Bumper and Hood latches, this model didn't have the "screen accurate" bumper. And this is the closest I could find on Ebay. had to cut it to get it to fit

Image

Taking it to a coin car wash to pressure wash it.

Image

After a power wash

Image

Primer, not worried about red areas, don't see them anyway.

Image

Same color as my jeep, had O'Reily's put it in a rattle can

Image

More primer

Image

Quick fresh coat on the wheels, no primer or anything.

Image

Found some stickers at HobbyLobby, really liked how it turned out. I threw 2 coats of clear over them but they are not sticking very well now (About 4 days after this picture)

Image

Prepping the Windshield

Image

Painted and put some cut out mirror replacements on for "real mirrors"

Image

Was going to just ditch the covers for the headlights, but the lights won't fit in without them. So just painted them black.

Image

All the wiring back in place.

Image

Got these off amazon, seem about the right size. This jeep didn't come with doors so I ordered some from another model. I don't think they changed the body between the models so they should fit on easily.

Image

Found this little amber lights at Autozone.

Image

Getting ready for the stripes, this isn't exactly how it is on the real jeeps but due to the size and layout I stretched the front red strip so it's more noticeable.

Image

Strips!

Image

Just cut out a stencil, didn't want to wait to have a "real one" scaled down. And eh it's for my 3 year old and she's not to picky on the details.

Image

Hood writing done, threw on some yellow reflective tape for the turn signals. And the bumper is on. It's not the stock bumper for this thing and I had to cut it. And the bracer for the bumper is limp, so the bumper will limp forward.

Image

Image

ABout 85% done. Still missing the doors, the license plates and a spare tire to mount in the back

That is probably the single best job I've ever seen anyone do on a Powerwheels JP build. Yikes. Love the details of the amber lights to the rear.

Getting some black sheet metal to bind for little bumpers in the back.

I've thought about getting a leather pouch and putting it on the back of the chair. And painting the chair green with tan cloth strap around it. And the spare. But I've already went over my budget on this little thing so I'll probably not do it.

Here's after putting the doors on.

Excellent Job! I need to start looking for a power wheels jeep. I've been meaning to do a project like this one for awhile. Great work!

The Barbie One seems to be the best model.

The doors are really wonky on this one since it didn't actually have doors. And the bumper wasn't the stock one. That barbie one has the foglights up front and all.
