Tamiya 1/24 Build Along!
I know a few of us have this 20 year old model kit, and not many of us have started it. I'm curious if anyone wants to do a build-along... Maybe share in experiences, tips, and resources. I have a ton of other projects on my plate but my goal is to get this model done by July 1st.
My plans are to build a #12 with working lights. I believe I've tracked down some accurate BFG tires, although they don't say "radial" and are scaled for 31" tires.
I'll also be scratch building a winch, whip antenna, light bar, Jabsco lights, rear fog lights, and front fog lights.
Sooo... who's with me??

Mine is still in it's box... I've been meaning to get started just havent gotten around to it. I will be doing a #29 just like my full size build, and I have the styrene rods I need to scratch build the light bar. but no supplies yet for the other items, though my plan was same as your's to scratch build those items.
Are you planning on filing off the japan front lights on the fenders? I'm concerned about making that looks right.

Oooh, working on model cars I hear. I've been working on making a 1/24th scale Ford Explorer replica, and have been 3d modeling some of the parts for it such as the Brush guard, track sensors, roof with lights, bubble roof.

Nice! What base are you using? I've seen a lot of '96 AMTs but couldn't find any earlier explorers.NathansPROPS wrote:Oooh, working on model cars I hear. This makes me feel all sorts of happy inside. How were you planning on attacking the roof?NathansPROPS wrote:Maisto 1992 Ford Explorer 1:24th Scale Model.

Glad you asked! I have been working on 3d designing parts for my explorer such as the brush guard, roof, etc. I have a package from shapeways waiting at home for me to open. In the package is the Brush Guard with Track Sensor and the Red Roof with lights part among other models. Thats the first thing I'll go to when I get back home. Anyway whats my plan for attacking the roof? With the Red rear top piece and a Vacuum Former mold of the bubble roof. They fit together perfectly (That is what I designed them to do, might have to make some adjustments after tests) But basically I have designed these models in the photos below to match the measurements I took off my model explorer's roof.
