Jurassic Park Explorer Control Panel Replica

Post by NathansPROPS » July 21st, 2014, 2:22 am

Hello All! Im a prop maker and a huge fan of Jurassic Park. I love the explorers in the movie! I love them so much someday I do hope to build one of my own like scoodidabop! Anyway a couple of years ago there was an auction for Jurassic Park props, one of them was the Explorer control panel! http://www.screenused.com/?sectionID=it ... m_id=12556 So I made a model off the photo showing the buttons with the measurements given from the description and came out with an exact replica of the prop! I even added the text to my 3d model! It will be up for sell very soon! This is a perfect piece to any collection! Here is the link to Model!

Thank you for being interested in my work. It will be up for sale soon!! Shapeways is going to be changing their pricing for materials on Oct 7th! Thus lowering the price a fair amount and allowing me to order a test panel in the future! Thank you again for being interested in my work, I hope my product will please you. If you take a look at the photo below. I indented the four buttons with the blue, red, and other two symbols. This allows you to paint in this area or put a sticker if you wish on the indented area. I have gone back into the model and rounded out some of the button tops making it more accurate to the photo.

Very good work!

I'd be interested in one for my truck.

Yes Of Course! I have seen your jurassic park explorer build photos with the back part of the roof done and the lights! I can't wait to see your finished explorer. This prop will be available soon, just waiting for the price reduction at Shapeways to be applied Oct 7th.

Quick Update! I've fixed all the imperfections on the model thus making buttons symmetrical and evenly spaced. It looks excellent and is just about done. Though I'm still debating about adding the text, anyway I was wondering if anyone knew where this panel was placed in the Explorer? On the auction sight theres a shot of tim about to close the explorer door, thus hinting it was a door control panel. The piece itself is a 5.5"x5.5" inches, making me think its way too big for it to be on the door arm panel. Maybe it was on the center console piece? I don't know but Heres some photos.

It's never seen on-screen, but it is located on the center console.

Now that makes sense! I cut a block of wood to the size of the prop and realized that it couldn't fit on the door panel. So it got me thinking, maybe it was on the center console.

OMG! AAAAAHH!! Sorry for the excitement I just never seen a good interior photo of the Explorer!! Do you have any more interior shots of the explorer??? Just to be clear this is the IOA number Five Explorer? Still cool! Funny story: My Geometry teacher told my class that he was taking his daughter down to Universal studios in florida, I freaked out in class and gave him homework. Of course the assignment was to take pics of the interior of the explorer. He showed them to me (honestly weren't that good) but he did get yelled at for trying to take a photo above and into the explorer through the bubble roof. Thanks so much again really! Also Seeing the panel from that angle made me realize that the buttons on it are compressed down same with the knob, unlike mine! Also noticed the edge looks to be 5mm or 10mm thick. I want to keep the price down on my model but I could apply these changes to my model if you all wanted me too. PLEASE DO ADD SUGGESTIONS FOR THE MODEL! I'd be happy to add something thats missing or take away something thats unnecessary. I want it to be accurate but also what you expect it to be! Also Cyrix9445 If you have any more shots of the IOA Explorer, exterior or interior shots, could you PM me some! I love the explorers!
