High Voltage Sign

Post by jpsteve » May 4th, 2013, 11:42 pm

So I got the 10,000 volts sign made and thought it would be neat to set up some orange and blue strobe lights, similar to the ones on the fences in the movie. The problem I have though is that when I power the lights up, they don't have an alternating flash pattern. They will start out alternating then, start flashing together, then alternate and so on. I think the lights flash at different speeds. Does anyone know how I could wire them so that power is turned on to 1 bulb while cutting power to the other bulb, then alternating it like a switch? Or does anyone have any other ideas?

I searched online and found this place in Richmond BC called Signorama. I put the design in online then about a week later I got the sign in the mail.

I did two runs of the signs in metal 1:1 scale a few years ago.
They came out really nice.

Is yours metal or plastic?

What may have happened is the sequence is slightly off.
They're not set to on/off and then off/on but timed and the timing is not exact so they overlap every few sequences.

The sign is aluminum. What size were the ones you made? I just guessed from pics I seen online and in the film.

I'll have to measure as I don't recall the exact size.

Found a place that sells cheap white 12"x 24" blanks. I'm not too good with metal thicknesses however :?:

I'm debating weather I should use decals or paint. Would be funny to hang them up in random places
