Personally, I'd say if you were going to go thru the color change I'd go with a tan. The red and black would look good but you'd look like a UGA parade float
. I guess I am more of a purist though, but I do like the green/black scheme. A black top would compliment the bushwackers and would look good on a Red, Black or Tan Jeep.

Ya that UGA thing threw me. I'm just trying to stay somewhat true to the original color scheme (logo and such) without making it look like I did a poor job on a replica.

Decals came in today.

I did go with 8bitdecals but I purchased them before I really read through the forums so I'm not 100% sure that I'll use them.
Little upset that the hood decal and the side numbers came black but they're recutting them as stencils today.

Oh man! If I had seen this post earlier I would have made you this! Not too shabby if you ask me, but I love me some black jeeps! What color did you end up going with?

I think his is going to look great and everyone around me is saying that I should do the black as the base coat and keep the red as the stripes. That way the stock black top and with the bushwakers would go. Any thoughts?

Update-
Started on the frame restoration today. I had some rust throughout the frame so I started cleaning it up. I stared grinding it down.

Then I applied a stripper so I could really clean it and continued to grind it down.

Through a deruster on it, didn't really do much but it looked a little better.

Pulled off the trailer hitch. Had to cut through most of the bolts, that took forever but finally got to take off that rusty piece of junk.

Repainted the handles and trim pieces. Kept priming areas that I hadn't finished.

Started with two coats of rustoleum undercoat and then hit it with 2-3 coats of flat black.

Put everything back together and tried on my pocket style bushwacker fender flares.

I think it looks pretty good as is at this point. Next I had to restitch the top. Its in pretty good condition apart from the typical rip by the front on the drivers side and the stitching was coming out. I got polyester nonwicking thread from an upholstery shop and decided to undergo the process.

Took awhile but if you spend the time and restitch through existing holes, it turns out great for all of 8 dollars.
Also I found the best top cleaner that I've ever used. I've gone through specialty top cleaner and most things that people recommend. This stuff took off Georgia red clay that had been sun baked on the top for over 8 months. The bestop cleaners and pressure washers did nothing, but then I threw this one, scrubbed it for about 10 seconds and it was gone.

All in all, I think she's looking pretty good. Now to decide on paint and really start the transformation.

Im willing to share an old idea of mine. Switch it around. Make the base coat green (preferably a dark one) and make the stripe grey (similar to the grey on boomerjinks jeep) I had a pic of it at one point just playing with some color ideas but I didnt save it.
