I ran into the same problem when mounting my spare. I just removed the rubber bumpers from the tailgate and the 31" spare fits perfectly.

Eventually I will purchase one of these spare carriers that mount to the body and not the traditional aftermarket style that mount to the bumper:

Yeah, Ive heard that too. Im figuring a 30/31" should be ok. I hear it mostly about the larger 33/35" tires. And the heavier tires like Super Swampers and steel wheels.

I wonder what they used in the movie. Didnt they have larger than stock BFGs on them? I know they had matching spares.

I was writing my reply as you posted.

That looks like what I might go with in the future. I might have to settle on removing the rubber bumpers for now.

Actually, now that I think about it. How about a 1" or 3/4" wheel spacer on the carrier? I might have one from XJ project.

More progress! We're soo close now.

Got everything installed, wired up, and running. :D

Only thing left to do is bleed the new clutch, and replace a broken vacuum line fitting.

Finally wrestled in it:

So that's what goes in that big empty space:

Getting it all hooked back up:

Ayup! :D

I already paid off the engine, so once I cover shop fees, it's back to the JP conversion!
