Ammonite's Jeep #15

Post by Ammonites » November 19th, 2010, 5:52 pm

Okay, I think I've found a Jeep that will work. Have to look at it next time I'm in the area (probably next week). Anyway, I found a '91 Jeep Wrangler with 147k on it for about $5000. I'll be calling about it and hopefully I can get my hands on it. No picture, but description says its red.

I'll be concentrating on the exterior mostly, but plan on converting the whole thing eventually. Here's hoping!

That price seem a lil steep for a 91 non-sahara with 147 miles, I'd try to get him down...

$4873 is the official list price, but I've got a trade-in and that's where the bargaining comes in, right? I'll check it out of course, and post some pics when I get some for you guys to look at. Here's hoping...

Good luck, keep in mind these are 20 year old vehicles and will require pretty intensive evaluation and perhaps repair. Just keep that in mind if it will be a daily driver. Mine had a little less miles than that and I put about $350 in parts alone into mine to get it more reliable. I could stand to spend another couple hundred to replace worn out bushings and ball joints :).

I thought I got a pretty good deal on mine at $2500 from Craigslist. Until I replaced seats, top, carpet, steering wheel, bumpers, Transmission, every vacuum line....now I'm in about 5 grand and all of those things I replaced (except trans) have to be sold to buy the stock parts i removed so I can do the JP...maybe I should just look for a correct one and work from there.

Not planning on having it be a main vehicle, so that should cut down a bit. I do understand the amount of work that will be going into it with repairs and keeping it running good. I'm going to try taking this as I can get to it and hopefully within the next year or two I'll have it up and ready to show off :D

Got some pics from the dealer. Seems to be in pretty good order. Had a bit of a snowstorm the other day so there's still some snow you can see. Anyway, let me know what you guys think. I'll probably go for it and make updates and adjustments as needed (I know I'll need to). I'm thinking it should work out for the project. Won't be 100% accurate but I'm going for what will make me happy, getting as close as I can.

I think $4875 is a bit high there. That is probably a 4k Jeep IMHO. You will need quite a few hard parts to convert that one doors/cage/full interior plus any repairs needed.

Not sure exactly what your budget might be. But I'd try and hold out if he won't come down.

Rear bumper will need to be replaced.

$5k is high. if it had the right seats or something then maybe, but everything will have to be swapped out.

Looks like they sold it... Next closest one is a '95 for 8k that's 180 miles away. There's a few more for sale but they're all 300+ miles away...

There IS a '92 Wrangler Sahara for 7k, but that's pushing 500 miles... May take a bit longer than I thought just to get one...
