Re: Jeep Comanche- Park maintenance build
Is everyone this anxious waiting for cars in the paintshop? been exciting the past couple weeks! Right after this went in and I paid the painter (literally the next day), my DD hondas timing chain skipped time, followed by my other fun car/backup blowing the transmission. Its an expensive automotive year for me! Hondas fixed, Mustangs automatic is going to be swapped for a stick, and this bucket is still in paint hell.
I did get new door locks, shocks, and a couple decisions for it. I'll be clearcoating over the door decals rather than laying them over it. Also figuring out how to make a factory-style hidden winch behind the front bumper.
And my first experience with this when its done? It will be te break in trip- my family is renting a place on the beach in SC. Ill be flying into Atlanta to get this, drive it 6 hours to charleston, then the 1000+ miles home. On a 1988 Jeep with 220,000 miles? No problem!

Nice! I can't wait to see how this turns out! I love Comanches. My first vehicle was an 86 Comanche. I wanted to turn it into a JP Comanche like 5 years ago but it started to bite the dust on me. Losing compression in cylinders, and electrical issues. I do miss my Comanche.

Where is truck? still in paint!
Village garage sale was over the weekend, found a old GE CB radio for 15 bucks with an antenna. It starts up, but I didnt pick anything up when I tried it quick. For the price, Ill put it in and give it a shot. Mounting the 102" antenna to the rear passenger bedrail- I cant bring myself to drill a big hole in the 1/4 panel.

Bodyshop update. Has to pull off the doors- the hinges on both sides are pulling off the A-pillar, need to be straightened and rewelded.

Another update from the bodyman!
Still has the other 1/4 panel and tailgate to prep. And fix the doors. He said it should be in paint in a few weeks... So now the countdown starts. I need to be in this on the road no later than august 16th to drive back! Will I make it? or will I be in a rental?

Looks like rental it is- no photos yet, but the drivers side of the bed isnt in great shape. The spraypaint was hiding a lot of small damage, and layers upon layers of paint. Another 2 weekends before paint, minimum.

I may be biased, but I like D1NO DNARustyRodder wrote:Waiting for a couple paychecks before I get more parts. Also talking to a friend about paint.

Sorry to hear about your delays, but I'm sure it will be worth the extra time to get it done right.
