Re: Jurassic Park Jeep #12

I should have posted this back in August when I wished the passenger side.. but I now have both sides done.

Finally got done welding (both sides) of the rear frame. It took a while longer to get done thanks to Dragon*Con and a trip to New York with Jeep #18 owner Boomerjinks. I thoroughly welded all sides of the frame with the plates and then hit them with a layer of rust preventing paint, and then black paint. It turned out great, but it makes the rest of the rusty frame really stand out now!

Here is the passenger side, the driver side looks the same:

Now to put the gas tank back in, and drive the Jeep without a top for a few more weeks before it becomes too cold to do so!

Looks great AJ, I ordered my inner plates from the same guy. Should have them next week. I have never dropped a YJ tank, hopefully its as easy as a TJ :).

I'm not sure if I chronicalled the process I went through.. but it was a pain in the ass. All the clamps were tightened and turned up, as if the clamps were tightened, and then the body was put on. Then there was the problem of the forward bolts being pretty well rusted, so I had to cut one of them out. I pretty much ended up just cutting the large lines and then dropping it.. Hopefully install goes better!

GOOD LUCK!

Nice job!! My YJ has some serious rust in the frame in the same spot so that's my next challenge to tackle. I think it's funny how many (non-Jeep) people have been telling me I should forget about the rust and just buy a new vehicle. I knew about it before the JP conversion, I just couldn't help myself and decided to do the repairs during this process.
Hold onto your butts.

I still haven't put it back together yet.

It should only have about an hour now once I go pickup a few more bolts and put the fuel filler back together.

The welding is finally completed and the gas tank has been reinstalled with a brand new filler neck, tubes and license plate bracket. Everything on the Jeep that was fixed is working perfectly as it should. The rust replacement panels seem to have worked nicely and the Jeep doesn't squeek like it used to. That being said I haven't driven the Jeep in two months until today.

What a great way to enjoy the fall weather, its in the 80s here right now... a change from the 50s just a week ago. Just a few more days of summer left until the hard top goes back on.

Grrr.

Blew the power steering line while out driving last night.

Still need to determine which line it was, but it looks like they range from $12 - $100+ to replace. I was gonna just replace them all until I saw that one was super expensive.
