Australian TJ #14
Australian TJ #14
here is my base vehicle. its so much fun to drive that i wish i'd bought one earlier instead of my daily
first thing i tried to do was straighten the bumper but this bolt caused me so much pain that i was ready to throw in the whole project
second order of buisness was making a hard top hoist
then stripping and washing the grimy rollbar pads
i got some upholstry spray paint to restore the pads and change the sound bar from black to tan
works great on the vynil but not so much the upholstry
finally i fitted the soft top that came with it. theres not meant to be a gap like this, even if i had surrounds right?
oh yeah and i have a light bar for it but nothing is lining up properly ad the bolts that came with it are so tight i've stripped most of them trying to fit it

Re: Australian TJ #14
you need the door surrounds, they have a channel that the top snaps into to hold it in place.
Re: Australian TJ #14
oh well
my temporary magnetic decals arrived today
SHOPPING LIST:
sport style bumpers
fog lights
overhead lights
door surrounds
spice soft top
custom license plate
ON THE WAY:
half doors and uppers
US style license plate holder
ARRIVED BUT UNINSTALLED:
fairlead
light bar
JP plates
i'm not sure what im going to do about the whip antenna. A: if i go for the full length one its going have to go over the drivers side which is probably going top get in the way a lot and B: i cant find any details about anywhere selling them in Australia. i saw one on ebay but it was in a different state and had a gold ball fitting so i let it pass but i kinda regret that now because i havent seen one since.
one solution i thought of was to order the ball mount from the US and just have a regular upright antenna

Re: Australian TJ #14
why would it need to be on the drivers side?
you guys don't have radio shack over there? also try looking up small local electronics/radio/CB shops, they should be able to order stuff for you.

Re: Australian TJ #14
because the fuel cap is on the passenger side. i might be able to squeeze it in there still. i just googled where the fuel cap is on the YJ because i couldn't find it on the header jeep and damn thats cool
and no we dont have radio shack. i'll just have to look around a bit more i guess.
side note: the day after i bought the TJ i found one of the only YJs in Australia was up for sale

Re: Australian TJ #14
lol, i forgot your steering wheel was on the wrong side. but it still looks like you could squeeze it in above it.
Re: Australian TJ #14
man, i thought i hadn't done much since the last update but theres actually been a fair bit
firstly my light bar arrived and turned out to not fit at all, so i had to drill out the holes to make it fit
then my i ordered some half doors
got the cheapest spotlights i could get for the light bar and plastidipped the wheels...
and made a huge mistake. there was a con coming up so i thought i'd do some quick and dirty stripes over the black
it did not go well. the paint started to bubble then i paniced and tried sanding it off before it dried and then... i dont even remember what i was trying to do with the primer in there. oh well, it all comes off soon
with some help from my dad the bolt from hell came off. i dont have a replacement bumper yet but at least i can get the damn thing off now
picked up a set of brush guards for all the lights. not canon but cool. "no drill" and "included screws" my ass
got some more interesting overhead lights and made up a tag
and lastly:
"i'de never even heard of ramsey before this so they're probably impossible to get here. i'll just settle for something that looks close"
never been happier to be wrong

Re: Australian TJ #14
so i got my decals in yesterday. i'm much happier with the quality of the printing compared to the magnets that i got from the same place.
only one little hitch. see to get them cut to the shape they needed to leave a border of unprinted material around the edge of each logo. so i chose clear backing so i wouldn't have to trim it myself. sounds easy enough right?
the white on the logo text? thats the backing packing paper. even better is the fact that everything else is transperant so the colours change depending on what surface you put them on. but other than that they're really good for a random online printing service
all i really need to do to fix this is apply them to some white film and then trim them but thats going to be a major PITA

Re: Australian TJ #14
a few weeks ago i developed a slow leak in the radiator. the day before i was going to get it replaced it upgraded to cracked hose which led insanely fast overheating and me stalling on an expressway, luckily right by and exit
ironicly i coasted to halt directly opposite a 4X4 wreckers...
all it needed to do was hold out for the two hour drive to my parents place where the new radiator was waiting but NO
