93 Explorer build. Not movie correct :)

Post by Jesse88 » December 3rd, 2020, 5:50 am

This is my 93 Explorer that im building. Doing all the work myself. It’s been a dream for my future wife and I to build and own one! But with a twist

This is the day we picked her up, May 2020

The first thing I did was to get it to run right. It had some funky codes and I replaced just about everything under the hood. Turned out the computer was bad. Now she runs great! (Except the normal 4.0 leaks lol)

Then I installed a 4” lift up front and added some 32” tires.

Then I did a spring over conversation and a rear disk brake swap.

Since no one makes a nice looking off road bumper for the explorer I decided to get a weld it yourself kit for a Jeep XJ. Had to move the mounting points inward but the outcome was perfect. Also replaced the drivers fender, lower valance and headlight bezel.

It stayed this way for a few months with the addition of a winch. We took it out to Citrus Wildlife Management Area a few times off roading. It did great but the front suspension was getting tired. Also the lift bracket punched a hole in the top of my front diff.. I know I know.. lift brackets suck! Lol.

Then it got a little more serious. I decided after getting my Bronco II that I’m building back from paint that I wanted to learn how to paint. (Because I hate the outcome of my B2)

After some practice runs with some spare parts I decided it was time to paint the Explorer. I painted it by myself in my backyard and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I still need to fab up a rear bumper and tire carrier.

Now it sits on American racing AR23 wheels with 33x12.5 BFG all terrains.
