Started installing the first roll of sound deadening in the Explorer. Went with SoundSkins Pro which is a little thicker (0.18") than your normal Dynamat since has 3 layers (acoustic foam, foil, and butyl rubber). I still need about 4-5 more rolls and its gonna cost about $350-$450 but should be enough to cover the rest of the floor pan, inside all 4 doors, and a few other panels that could use some.

I'm probably going overkill with the amount of sound deadening, but I'm no professional. Just don't want the bass from the T-Rex stomping or thunder to be rattling and clanking the Explorer. I want that nice deep bass. And I think it looks pretty clean, even though you won't be able to see it once the carpet is back in....BUT ILL KNOW ITS THERE! lol.

The process for installing it is pretty straight forward. Clean the area and wipe it down with alcohol, pre-fit the SoundSkins, cut any holes out that you don't want covered, then apply with a roller.

that's not so bad unless it takes something like 10 rolls.

Thanks Trevor! It's a much slower process than the Jeep because the parts are either much harder to find or things need to be custom made (which is $$$$)

A friend of mine found this factory premium sound system speaker box for me on Ebay so I couldn't pass it up. It came with the 2 amplifiers and the subwoofer, but all of that will be getting changed out with better quality stuff.

I've got the 6.5" JL Audio subwoofer on its way as well as 4 more rolls of the SoundSkins.

Some more goodies arrived in the mail today! 4 rolls of SoundSkin and a 6.5" JL Audio Subwoofer.

Something i'm learning during this Explorer build is that not every step of the way is very "Jurassic". There are so many behind the scenes things that need to be done before the Jurassic makeover. Sound deadening is one of those things.

I want to treat as much surface area since it will make the audio sound much better, but also cut down on the road noise since SoundSkins have a built in layer of closed cell foam.

Looking great. I think all the "behind the scenes" stuff is the fun part of the builds since there's so many upgrades and options.
