Just picked up a Sahara with the five speed, plan on doing #18. Its in good condition, needs a windshield and some minor rust bubbling fixed. I have stock wheels already, so I am on my journey to make a decent replica, not perfect, but at least a 10 footer. I am thinking about using plastidip, for both the tan and the red. This is due to the fact that I don't want to be committed to Jurassic Park theme for my whole ownership of the vehicle. It is not my daily, so it can sit in the garage most the time. As long as I get 6 months out of the plastidip I will be happy. I may look into wraps as well. Here are some pictures of what I got.

Well went to register the jeep and get a custom plate, found out JP 18 was already taken, so I decided to switch to #10. The jeep has some oil leaks from the oil pan gasket, got the new gasket ordered so I can get that fixed. Also, I have a question for other manual owners, sometimes when putting it into reverse, it grinds. It has done it about 4 out of the 30 times I have gone into reverse so far. Anybody know the fix for that?

Do these have a synchronized reverse? If not, that's normal...going really slow when shifting into reverse will usually avoid it.

Small update, received window tag, plates from celebrity machine and also just picked up a family roll bar for $75. The "Sport" style that came with the 1989 is ugly and makes the Jeep look like a Suzuki Samurai. Still waiting on warmer weather to get started, last night we just got another 8" of snow, so it may be awhile.

sounds like everything is ok with reverse. I wouldn't worry just yet.
