$500 DIY Conversion

This is a post of encouragement for anyone who doesn't have a lot to spend, but wants to turn their Jeep into a Jurassic Park Jeep. If you want to go full screen accuracy, you'll obviously probably have to spend a lot more on seats, dash, light bars etc, but even a non-screen accurate Jeep is still a lot of fun to own. I like to think of my Jeep as screen accurate +20 years. ie what the original Jeep might look like now.
I started with a 1991 YJ in OK shape... Then I bought around $400 worth of spray paint/painting supplies.
1) Tape, Mask, and Tarp like crazy. The better you prep, the better your results will be.
2) Spay entire Jeep with Rust-oleum white sandable automotive primer (stocked at Oriellys, around $4/can)
3) Spray entire car with 'Duplicolor BT49 Brite Touch Automotive & General Purpose Primer - Gray' (stocked at Napa, around $3/can)
3) After grey is dry, Mask/tape off stripes and paint with Rust-oleum red spray paint. (stocked at home depot, around $4/can)
4) After it's dry, Spray entire Jeep with several coats of Rust-oleum flat matte clear coat for protection. (stocked at home depot, around $4/can) Go to you local sign shop and have them print your vinyls, they can match your colors and have faster turn-around time than ordering from online (I used FastSigns and they charged me $91 for all 5 vinyls, including installation). Order a JP front license plate from Ebay for $15, then buy a $5 laminate kit at Walmart and make yourself a JP rear mirror hang tag. Install everything and boom.. Obviously, I have tons of respect for everyone in this community, especially the screen accurate guys. This is not to make light of their efforts, but just to encourage those who want to do a DIY, quick and dirt conversions.
