JP16 of St. Louis, MO

Post by skippy102595 » February 17th, 2017, 3:48 pm

I've been a member of this site since 2011, bought my Jeep in 2013 and converted it into a JP Jeep over the past 6 months. JP16 started out life as a base model YJ in gloss black. At some point it was painted flat black and then I took purchased it in 2013 with 110K on it. I've done my best to take care of it as best as I can and I'm proud to say it's a JP Jeep now. It has the 2.5L engine with the 5-speed, no A/C, custom sahara interior, bestop supertop, KC Hi-lites and General grabber AT2's. She's not completely finished as I'll be adding more parts like the red wheels, whip antenna, rear fogs, etc. But shes officially part of the group now. Here's some photos I took the other day

Looks great! I'm working on getting mine ready for paint, did you do it yourself or have a shop paint it?

I've never painted a vehicle before but I'm pretty handy with tools. I'm just not sure I want to take on a project like that but the results look great!

So can you explain what you did step by step on painting "on a budget"?
- Sand or strip it down or just paint over old?
- What kind of prep?
- Specific brands / color of paint?

Anything else to add that would help future creators of JP Jeep replicas?

Hello! Fellow St. Louis Jurassic Park jeeper here! Great looking jeep! Quick question: do you ever have any issues with whistling from the lights or light bar? I'm having a hell of a time getting mine to stop. Finally caved yesterday and took the lights off but left the bar on, and it's still whistling. I don't want to be forced to remove the bar too but I'm running out of options.
