Re: JP12 Build - Middle Georgia
I expected that when I removed the pinstriping, there would be some faded lines in its place. I was okay with that, but I found that what was left on the hood was much more of an eyesore. It's almost like they clearcoated the car after the pinstriping was applied - there's a hard, dirt collecting Ridge that runs the whole length of the hood. It was the straw that broke the camel's back. I'm not aiming to reproduce the movie Jeeps EXACTLY, but with the base coat being the wrong color, showing 25 years of wear, and the eyesore on the hood (it always looks worse in person than in pictures) pushed me towards a total repaint. Fortunately there is a business nearby with excellent reviews that can do the work for a reasonable price.

I wonder if the hood was reshot at some point

You try very light wet sanding, then a buff out?

Re: JP12 Build - Middle Georgia
I'd tried a light wet sanding just aft of the hood where the Jeep would be painted red. I didn't like the results. I asked the owner of the body shop about it. Now, I know it's in his best interest to sell me on more expensive services, but he was pessimistic about fixing that line without repainting the entire hood (and if I'm going to repaint the hood, I'm going to repaint the whole car). In fact, even though I intended to ask about that line anyway, his eyes were drawn to it before I could even bring it up. I opted to repaint the whole Jeep. Even though it's only a slight color difference, it makes the whole car look brand new, and I have a very critical eye when it comes to colors. I probably never would have repainted the Jeep if I was just interested in keeping it as a 1993 Light Champagne Metallic Jeep Wrangler Sahara, but that's obviously not what we're here to do. Despite the significant expense, I have no regrets. Even my wife was so happy with the results that she agreed it was worth the repaint (and if that's not a win, I don't know what is!).

Bummer it couldn't be fixed... but in the end it looks damn good now.

Here she is, all masked up. Apparently, my instructions still need a little clarification. I stopped by to inspect/approve the masking before they painted. I ended up moving most of the lines, so I'm glad I checked their work before it was too late. Fortunately, their placement of the numbers was perfect. We probably wouldn't have been able to move those if they'd gotten them wrong.

That is a really nice paint booth, I assume they have the skills to back up their equipment investment. You're going to get some amazing results out of those guys.
