Re: 1988 YJ Laredo Edition Build to JP18
So after shooting some video this morning for a local documentary....
I was able to bondo some dents in the door, and double coat the primer. So I should be able to paint tomorrow after I sand some more. I also took out the stock YJ horn and replaced it with the Dodge E350 Van Horn that I pulled out at a junkyard, for ....reasons.... My goal for tomorrow is to have the doors painted, so they can be dry before our thanksgiving weekend. (its time to offroad)
Oh, and I have a friend who saw me bitching and moaning about my wheel debacle and is giving me his JK 17"ers for $0. Not sure if I can use them, but free is free, and the junkyards here may trade me 2 17s for 1 15in sahara tire from 1992....
So now im down to ...
Rims,
Lightbar (which I'm going to fab at some point)
CB Antenna
Family Roll Bar
Tropical Island with Dinosaurs on it
$1billion

MY DECALS ARRIVED! WITH MY LICENSE PLATE!
After double strike outs with the rims this week, it feels good to have a new piece for JP 18

JK uses 5x5 pattern wheels, the YJ is a 5x4.5.
Depending on the JK wheel, those are often worth significantly more resale than the old "JEEP" 5-spoke wheels.

Jp18 is coming along nicely! If you want to use the jk wheels, I recommend using these conversion spacers. Super high quality. I'm using the 1.5" for my jk being that my tires are much wider than stock.

Thanks guys,
I think I'm going to try to trade/sell to meet the necessary wheeltypes. I know I can get the wheels, they are everywhere online, its just a matter of not spending more for them than what I spent for the Jeep itself....

Just be patient. They will appear on CL at some point for near scrap value (~$15-25/ea), they always do. Live with off-standard wheels for now, it won't hold up the rest of your build. Don't pay online prices, shipping kills it.

And aren't some of the JK wheels nice 5 spokes as well? They would look nice in red and would be close enough in my books. Also a big plus 1 for using the SpiderTrax spacers if you decide to go that route. Off-road setups and spacers usually result in a heated argument but at least they are proper hub centric ones. And the wheels give you an opportunity to run larger tires easily too
I do have a set of 4 extra YJ wheels, but I think the shipping cost would offset the value quickly.

Re: 1988 YJ Laredo Edition Build to JP18
Philosoraptor: I agree, in a pinch the five spoke 17s will look WAAAAAAy better than what is currently on there.. but I'm trying to get close to screen accurate as possible, They can do the job in the meantime, but if I find a good deal/trade for some of the Alys I'm going to jump on it.
So today I accomplished painting my doors....kinda As you can see, not sand beige, these are an almond sand. So much for screen accurate. I have to wait 3 days for it to dry before I can sand it down and start over, hopefully it will darken a bit in the meantime and I wont have too... crossfingers*
I tried out my new paint sprayer, and after it got the air bubbles out, it ran pretty smooth. Not bad for a $55 electric air sprayer from Wal-Mart.
I think for now, I'm going to sand smooth the paint thats on there, add one set of decals, and off-road this weekend. Then next week when I have everything sanded down and prepped, with the proper mix of paint, I will repaint and add my other set of decals... because I apparently bought four when I meant to get two....
Anyway, thanks guys for your input, Boost: if I do end up using these tires those spacers will come in handy. Kytor: I have noticed them coming up on craigslist and then immediately disappearing often.... I just need to win the lottery so I can buy the original screencar from universal. haha.....

Nice nice! Keep at it. She's gonna look great. I'm happy with my 17's but sometime in the future I'm going to upgrade my wheels to the AEV 5 spokes. It will provide the right back spacing and looks pretty close to the screen accurate ones. It's a game of patience. Lol. Great job so far!

Re: 1988 YJ Laredo Edition Build to JP18
So today, I painted the Mirrors and mounted the doors, and added decals. Just the door ones.
Next week my goal is to fix the front bumper and start grinding off all the white paint.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
All put together,
I'm taking the weekend off to visit family and offroad it.
