Colorado JP #29
Re: Colorado JP #29
So.... There are numbers and then the stripes themselves.
Stripes: 2 options
option 1: be quick with final coat and peeling the tape... (means likely option 2 or 3 in numbers will be required, see below)
option 2: work in sections, plastidip can be done in sections with out too much trouble... as you spray plastidip it actually "melts" together so you could do a section, peel that section. dip the next section with a little overlap, peel that section, etc.
numbers:
the front JP29 on the hood will be a vinyl decal. So no issues with that one. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the 29 on the sides. I have 3 options.
Option 1: tape off the 29 before dip, and then peel the 29. The issues are getting tape into the shape of 29 would be difficult. And you can't use a vinyl decal as a reverse stencil with plastidip, because you have to remove it while wet, and getting a vinyl off would be too difficult with wet dip.
option 2: Use a vinyl decal After plastidip has dried. The plastidip forums have said this works fine.
option 3: Use the camo tan plastidip with a regular stencil after the red stripe is done. Since the camo tan is very close to the right color this should look ok.
You can also use an exacto to cut/score along lines to be sure you don't mess up your lines... of course you risk scratching your paint.. so should be avoided except at panel lines or along rubber (like the windshield gasket)

That sounds like a pretty good game plan. When this was first brought up, it sounded like a really cool project. The 5th is just around the corner!

Ok so. I ended up deciding to use a paper stencil for the numbers and try to peal it off quickly. One side this worked well on, the other side, I wasn't quite quick enough and there is a small section on the 2 that is not straight. Pulling larger sections I had to CAREFULLY run a box cutter along the very edge of my tape to make sure pulling tape didn't pull the plastidip. I had to redo the back stripe becuase when I pulled it my last coat along one seam wasn't thick enough and it didn't soften up the existing dip, so it pulled big chunks off when I pulled the tape.
PIcs: Now I need to go the vinyl guy and get my doors and the hood number. If he can't match the tone of the red, I could create stencils and do the hood number in plastidip if I have to. but stencils were a pain with the plastidip.
Oh and I pulled my old nasty seats and installed my replacements.. SO much nicer, and much more supportive! BUt I had to cut out one of the seat bolts which was a pain...
Oh and this MADE my day. Neighbors had their kids over for easter, and there son, walked up, and said "Hey I like your jeep, looks like a Jeep from Jurassic Park!" Even without the logos!!! WOOOHOOOOO.

That turned out great! And that's funny how your neighbors recognized it without the logos.

GO GET YOUR DOOR LOGOS IN TIME FOR THE WEEKEND!!!!
Re: Colorado JP #29
I know I talked to Scott and he was going to try, but he wasn't accepting any new orders right now. He said he would try to slip my job into the queue and get it done as soon as possible. Waiting to hear back.... Will probably call and get an update today.

Got the door Logos today. They are on. Tried to get some pics in the garage and the lighting sucks and my flash sucks.. so I'll get pics tomorrow. I used the same vinyl guy as Boomerjinks, and he accidentally printed my hood logo as Boomerjinks JP18. So my hood logo isn't applied yet. I'm going to stencil it and just use plastidip. So it matches the stripes exactly.
