weapon lxxxi's jeep 12
Re: weapon lxxxi's jeep 12
Stock size is 235/75r15 , which is roughly 29" tire, those are 30", so the tire is slightly bigger than the stock tire... not much but slightly...
Supposedly 30"s are fine for on road use with stock springs, but if you go off road and articulate your suspension much it might rub some.

He's talking about how the tire says "radial" which is accurate to the film, and why he'll probably be using it as a spare and definitely why it's worth noting.COBrian wrote:Nice. Slightly larger than the stock wheel size... are you going to get all 30" wheels or not care about matching size if you use this for your spare?

I would be wary of using one that says radial on it. Check the date code on the tire, I've read somewhere that tires are supposed to be only used if within 3 years of the date of manufacture, otherwise it can be dangerous.
Re: weapon lxxxi's jeep 12
3 years seemed a bit short to me, so I looked it up.. the recommendation is 6 years currently. There should be a 4 digit number on the tire somewhere that is the week and the year combined to give a manufacture date. IE 1710 would be the 17th week of 2010.

Good to know Brian, I always thought 3 years seemed short. Either I remembered it wrong, or it was 3 years at the time I got my info (or we've made advances in rubber/tire technology?)
Re: weapon lxxxi's jeep 12
PS this was Jeep's recommendation, in case anyone is curious where I got the info from. (As I bet there are different conflicting recommendations out there)
For instance this is copied straight from teh BF Goodrich site:
While most tires will need replacement before they achieve 10 years, it is recommended that any tires in service 10 years or more from the date of manufacture, including spare tires, be replaced with new tires as a simple precaution even if such tires appear serviceable and even if they have not reached the legal wear limit.

Re: weapon lxxxi's jeep 12
Ooh blimey I did not know this. I'll check the date neway just so we know. But I think I'll go with this plan.....
I'll stick it on as the spare & display purpose only & if I ever get a puncture or whatever I'll fill said new in date normal tire with that repair foam. If I have to use the radial I'll go at low speeds like u do with a space saver.

look what i picked up today
thats 5 wheels Woooo it was off of a cherokee and the only one in my local scrap yard. its got no center cap tho. ive looked on ebay for one but i cant tell if they would fit or if its the right ones? does anyone know another place to get these?

Re: weapon lxxxi's jeep 12
Nice Score!
I forget the exact size.. so measure.. but this place stocks I think all the alloy center caps.. http://www.jeepsareus.com/p/lv49.html
I think they are the smooth 2 1/2" ones.
These are more expensive, but are the mopar ones, and do state they are for the correct year: http://www.jeep4x4center.com/center-cap-52002971.html
