So here is more of what I have been doing
The Good
The Good
The bad and the ugly
The bad and the ugly
Started to weld toady, isnt the greatest but its gonna get rhino lined and covered by carpet anyway.

We welded a piece of sheet metal overtop of the crack and then we will have a thin steel plate for extra support under the driver and passenger seat so no more cracking occurs

Well that completes the 3rd day that I worked on the Jeep. I didnt have much time so only a little bit got done. I ripped out the heater control unit, but didnt take any pictures of that part.

Did anyone else rip out there dash? was it super filthy back there cause I tell you what, mine is all sorts of nasty.

Well here is day 4.
DSC01273.JPG
Well here is the jeep with the dash completely ripped out...im kind of freaked out by all the wires. there are so many odd ball ones for all the extra stuff that was added that I dont know what goes to what. Im gonna finish up the floor on the inside before I even start to piss with wiring.
DSC01277.JPG
If anyone knows where to get the gear indicator for an automatic from or is someone wouldnt mind checking for one next time they go to the scrap yard id appreciate it. all the places up here wont let me have one unless i buy the whole column and I havent been able to find any online. Im gonna get some headlight restorer and try to livin it back up that way, but I dont think im gonna be able to get all of it.
DSC01284.JPG
Yuck, Removed the windshield wiper motor and this is what it is covered in...
DSC01288.JPG
Started striping out the paint in the back of the jeep, its a helluva lot harder than I thought it was gonna be. its so much thicker in some areas and then its super thin in others.

Well that about it for day 4...stay tuned

Day 5 is here!!!
DSC01289.JPG
Started by getting rid of the rock guards (driver side) that were welded to the frame. Grinded them off with a 4 1/2" grinder. Still need to take them flush with the frame, but it will do for now.
DSC01290.JPG
The next part was not to much fun initially. Started to remove the skid plate for the transmission and failed to realize that it was also what holds the transmission in place. 5 bolts later, I promptly found out my error when the transmission fell on my chest. the only thing that kind of helped save me was that one bolt was still in. Luckily i was able to wiggle my way out, not let the transmission fall, and get my floor jack underneath. Phew, i felt like a total tard after that. Talk about a fu%& me moment.
DSC01292.JPG
Put a jack stand on the mount for the rear drive shaft and then on the front near the bell housing so I could get the skid plate off. (the whole purpose which I have failed to mention is that I am putting on a catalytic converter since one is currently not there.)
DSC01295.JPG
And its off without me underneath it...
DSC01299.JPG
Rather than investing in an aftermarket exhaust system, the dude went ghetto style and ripped off the entire exhaust in order to make the jeep louder.
DSC01300.JPG
Here is the new catalytic converter!!
DSC01303.JPG
Here is my new best friend!!!
DSC01302.JPG
Figured id put my new friend to use. the heat guards were all rusted so i figured since Im replacing the whole exhaust i mine as well fix up the heat shields.
DSC01304.JPG
DSC01307.JPG
Here it is back on the jeep
DSC01308.JPG
And the new muffler
DSC01309.JPG
And then the tailpipe
DSC01312.JPG
Tried to take the Torx out of the windshield so I could dip the hinges in a rust remover and this is what happened...The bane of my existence...broken bolts. this is probably the worst area where this could have happened because I cant get to the the other side of the bolt and If i mess up drilling its gonna be a nightmare!!! Any thoughts...Tomorrow i get my welder back so im gonna try and weld a bolt onto it and see where I end up...I called it a night after that.
DSC01314.JPG
And look who decided to make them selves at home on the couch while I was downstairs...

Also, was wondering if anyone would be willing to play a little "name that wire". Was poking around the engine tonight and found some connectors that, well, arent connected to anything. Also there are 4 wires that are hanging the are blue and black, but look like they have just been cut. Was wondering if I took detailed pictures of where the wires are if someone could kind point in the right direction of what they connect to.

I like that game! Take a pic. of the wires. Someone will know what they are but i am about 20 feet from my jeep so it is nothing for me to look. Also i must say you took on a big project, whew!

I'm following this build but I am probably useless for any mechanical or electrical help. If I have anything useful ill post it.

Decided to post the pics tonight seeing that when I get home @ 6pm its is like 10pm to those on the east coast
**Just a note, the pics are high resolution so you may need to click on the image too see the whole thing**
DSC01331.JPG
here is an overall view of the engine so you have a general idea of where its at.
DSC01330.JPG
here is a closer view. Also, in the back ground there is a blue wire as well. This is the second wire that I have no clue about. it seems to be coming from a line of wires that run to the alternator.
DSC01329.JPG
closer view of the one wire
DSC01328.JPG
and this is a closer view of the wire going to the alternator

if you discover anything pics work best, I'm not very mechanically inclined either so just basic terms and pics will do lol.

thanks to all who partake in the games! 8-)

Judging from the pics it might possibly be depending on the year of your jeep a OBD1 (on board diagnostics) data connector. Before everything was switched to OBD2 cars would literally have like 15 different connectors in the engine bay for testing various systems. Hope that provides some help or at least puts you on the right path good luck
