Check the harness leading down to the front axle. That double plug should have a mate around the battery box for the four wheel drive. Looks like someone has disconnected the locker for the front wheel drive. Have you tested the four wheel drive system? That single wire is just the diagnostic pin.

Thanks. Yup, 4 wheel drive does work, however, even in 2 wheel drive my 4x4 indicator light remains on. I wasnt gonna worry about it to much since i know when it is or isnt in 4 wheel. I was looking down around the front axles and wires do come up from there and go into a conduit, but havent gotten around to tearing the plastic tubing off to see where it goes. Ive seen on other forums where they say that the 4x4 light is due to a wire not being connected somewhere. maybe this is why. You say the blue wire is just a diagnositc pin...does that mean it doesnt need to be connected to anything 24/7?

That blue one just hangs out waiting for the day when you need to pull codes. So do nothing with this one. You should not need to take the tubing off to find where the other plug goes. Both the male and female plug for that wire pair hang out of the tubing so that they can be connected. The other half should be somewhere close to the plug you show in the picture. They connect in the batter/distributor area. I wonder if it got damaged at some point and was cut back and then taped up vs. being replaced. You could look for a bundle of black tape. Once you find the other half to that wire pair i bet that four wheel drive light goes out. I know that there are some vacuum lines going to the four wheel drive system up there but i was thinking the electric system allowed it to engage. For example the vacuum does the work but the electric system releases the lock. Are you sure the front tires are doing work? I dont know how the system works for sure because i have not worked on mine. This is how i see it being made so unless you have seen the front tires spinning in mud/snow i would double check. This is a concern though because what if there is something wrong up there? The PO might have just unpluged it vs. taking the drive shaft out. I have see this done many times before. People just take the drive shaft out... "There we go...its fixed!"

thanks for all the answers. I went down and rooted around today after work and found two wires that are the same same, but things are aready plugged into them. Here are some pics.
DSC01339.JPG
This is right ontop of the front axle on the left side (if looking at jeep from the front) The wiring that is currently plugged into seems to have been spliced since the tpe and color of wires dont match what they are plugged into. I think the PO spliced them due to the lift. The wires then run into the plastic wire covering so im not sure where they lead to. This is option one because I pulled the mystery wire down to the axle and without the lift it would reach.
DSC01340.JPG
Far away pic of possible location 2.
DSC01341.JPG
and here is a closer pic. This is right next to the battery. Again the one end seems to have been spliced because the wire colors dont match and the tape is different.

Here is the problem with both connections, the spliced ends are the male ends. The mystery cable is a female end...I dont see any "stock" male ends anywhere. Thoughts...Could anyone take some pictures too? that would help a great deal if i can see where its connecting wire goes.
DSC01347.JPG
This is another pic of the mystery wire. As you can see it has a T intersection in the plastic tubing. The top part goes to the engine and the lower part loops around and goes over to the drivers side to the computer.
DSC01343.JPG
Now this is something new that I found today poking around.
DSC01346.JPG
and here is a closer pic...it almost looks like a hose sensor or something. Any thoughts? its up to the right of the battery and it comes out of a the plastic tubin the come from down around the transmission.

I had that little plastic hose thing by my battery snap off, not sure what it is, but my Jeep works fine without it. LOL

Sorry everyone, duty called once again and I had to go on a last minute training exercise for a few weeks, yay army...now then, onto the good stuff.
DSC01315.JPG
I had had it with the roll bar, it was coming off one way or another. The first step was I ended up making the round TORX bolts into a sort of HEX bolt shape
DSC01317.JPG
Then went out and got these awesome sockets from craftsman. They are meant to extract messed up hex bolts, outter TORX bolts, and etc.
DSC01318.JPG
(My new toy from lowes, its not craftsman but it will do the job, but back to the build) used a bit of the air tools to help get the bolts out
DSC01323.JPG
VUALA, they came out.

Finally...after weeks of shear blood seat and tears, the roll bar has finally come off the jeep. The next task was to get the stripped screws out of the window frame.

Getting the screws out was a very gut wrenching experience since I knew if i messed up even slightly I would have to get a whol new frame sine you can only get to the screws from one side
DSC01322.JPG
But yet again, I was victorious!!!

That about did it for day 6 with the jeep, I just finished up the night with sanding and stripping of the jeep floor again

stay tuned!!

Had a pretty interesting day today, it was the first time for a while that it has been sunny all day up here and it got above 25 degree. It was such a gorgeous day and figured Id share a few moments that were also interesting.

It was such a clear day we figured we would try and get some training in. (im on the right)
Helo 1.jpeg
We found this today to (it may be hard to see but if you can zoom in you'll see it) We found a crashed DC9 on top of a mountain top. No one has seen it there before so we circled around a bit and took down the location. When we got back to the airfield we looked it up and it is apparently a wreckage from the 50's. If you look close you can see one engine in the middle of the screen and the second one a bit higher in the shot. To the left you'll see what was left of the fuselage and right wing...someone had a pretty bad day

(BTW, not sure why this one keeps showing up sideways, its normal on my computer. Id you click on it it shows up normal)
Wreckage.jpeg

when I was leaving the office I realized I was he last person to leave the hangar, so I couldnt pass up the opportunity to utilize my JP Magnets!!! I think it looks pretty badass!

Now for the jeep

When I got home I completely dedicated the night to finishing up the sanding of the tub interior.

That about did it for today. tomorrow is paint testing day. I got some vynil/fabric paint that i plan on reviving my console, dash, roll bar pads and soft top with. The dash is going to be gray and the top and roll bar pads are gonna be spice (obviously) currently the dash is spice and the top is black so I hope things go well, especially for the dash since you can hardly find those parts anymore. If I screw up the top and pads im not gonna worry to much since I was going to replace them anyway. Wish me luck!

It would be easy to use SEM plastic spray dye on the dash and steering column. You would not have to search for the right color piece that way. I also recently learned that Orielly's will mix plastic dye and put in a spay can as well. You can get cans for about $30.

a step ahead of you ratrace! :D Picked up 11 cans of "camel" sem paint for the doors and top, it is slighlty brighter than Spice, but i dont think it will be a large ordeal. For the dask I picked up dark gray from the duplicator vinyl spray. Already tested it a little bit on center console since I was going to throw it out anyway and it worked so well and looked so good I did the whole console and it looks almost brand new again. Im actually kind of upset I didnt do a before and after photo, ever thought when I started spraying it that I would end up doing the whole thing and end up deciding to keep the console.

Center console and door panels are green where the dash is grey. Is that what you are doing? Dying the top itself is a interesting idea. The top is black right? That is a dark color to change to spice. Its worth a try when a new top is $500. You have my full attention, I want to know how this top turns out.
