For a cell phone, yes. It weighs about 15-16 oz. with battery.

This little gem arrived today. New-in-box and it works. Same model as was used in JP III. And no, it does not appear to be waterproof.

Now, I need to figure out how to take it apart to paint the face without breaking it.

Did someone here do a run of the Hammond canes a while back or am I just wishfully thnking?

Ah, that's how the did it. That would have been a lot easier than modifying a perfectly good working radio (which at the time would have been a very expensive waste of a perfectly good working radio). And they added a jack on the side where the secure net switch would gave been mounted on the inside...

This particular model is, yes. There are some that are the longer case (for the encryption module) and they can be used I suppose.
