Re: My Explorer Build Blog

It won't cost anywhere near that, but that's because I'm doing it all myself. 8k would probably be the low end if Boeing did it...

Re: My Explorer Build Blog

It looks like a t-rex bit the roof off that car! Did you notice the image name? I'm building my fiberglass roof box seperately using Cyrix's IOA templates, then mounting it to the car when it's done. I gotta go hit this local place up again for the plexi so my fingers are crossed that they'll actua...

Re: My Explorer Build Blog

No progress on the dome itself, but I spent the better part of the weekend doing this to a junkyard Explorer... http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f374/drewsmith007/JunkyardhasaTrex.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f374/drewsmith007/CutRoof.jpg I'm going to use it to trial cut the opening and to...

Re: My Explorer Build Blog

I screwed the top of mine into the top of the stock license plate mount. Not sure how you'll handle it, but I think you can move the plate elsewhere as long as it's still visible.

Any hobby or craft store probably has them. They come in 2 pieces and have a loop on top to tie things to. You need the 4" ones, sometimes called 100mm.

Re: My Explorer Build Blog

Someone on ExplorerForum identified it as a lid to a battery box. You can get them on ebay new, but they have debossed info labels that have to be dealt with. http://www.ebay.com/itm/390402187148?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 The domes are from hobby lobby, with a hole drilled i...

Re: My Explorer Build Blog

Not much to report. I picked up a clear hatch window today and just got all the purple tint off. I took the trim off the bottom yesterday and found some rust. Not as bad as it could have been, but it'll take some work to fix. The roof dome will be made from 1/4" acrylic. Unless one of the other guys...

Re: Rebel's PNW Explorer Build

Welcome. $1500 isn't anything to worry about when it comes to first gen explorers. Mine was in very good shape mechanically and was $2200. A few months down the road I had some gasket issues that you would never see until it's spewing coolant... The body seems straight, and the running boards are go...
