Re: New member, new project... but on a different scale.

I see you are just as interested in re-creating the toys from the movie as I am. Nice work on the Mattel Jeep. My kids have one of those lying around here somewhere. I don't see any pictures of the finished product of the Mercedes or the Explorer. I'd like to see them. Maybe it would help with Shape...

Re: New member, new project... but on a different scale.

Basically after about a year of work, I'm done. I've got a rear license plate to mount and the whip antenna.

I even added Nedry.

Re: New member, new project... but on a different scale.

I've made just a little more progress. A few features have been finished in black. It really makes it "pop". Other parts have been added. I've started work on setting the ride height, but as I was afraid the shocks that came with it are made for much more lift than I'd like. If you look closely, you...

Re: New member, new project... but on a different scale.

I found some time to finish the soft top. I can't wait to move on to the finer detail work!

Re: New member, new project... but on a different scale.

I've found a little more time for the soft top. First the doors where permanently installed and supported. Along with the two hinges I broke off while handling the body. I started with securing the soft top from the front and worked my way back. Only the back two windows left to go.

Re: New member, new project... but on a different scale.

It's been a while. Between fixing the 1/1 scale Camaro, vacations, and kids I haven't made much time for the Jeep. Today I made some progress on the soft top. I had to start with the doors so I can move on to fitting the rest of the top to it.

Re: New member, new project... but on a different scale.

I've installed a new windshield and put on a strip of wood along the top of the windshield frame to help support the cloth top. Now I am trying to figure out how I'm going to make this soft top work. On second look at the cloth material outside the store, I think I should have gone with something mo...

Re: New member, new project... but on a different scale.

Now on to the soft top. I bought a few feet of steel rod to form into the frame for the top. The frame will follow the soft top structure instead of the actual roll bars. , but for this model still be adequate.

Re: New member, new project... but on a different scale.

I was able to mount the rims this past weekend. The suspension and rear body mounts need to be adjusted to get the ride height corrected.

Re: New member, new project... but on a different scale.

On a second look, it appears both the RH and LH side 12's were forward of the seam. I should have made them taller. At this point I'm not turning back. At the rate I'm going I don't need to create more work. I'll fix it if there is a need for major paint re-work.
